We are looking for a Controller with 7-12 years of progressive accounting experience to serve as the first dedicated senior accounting leader at a Series B power electronics company. You'll be a hands-on builder who can process journal entries and invoices today while laying the foundation for a best-in-class accounting org that scales from R&D through mass production and beyond. This is a rare opportunity to join a high-growth hardware company with significant customer demand and shape the finance function from the ground up.
What will you be doing?
Lead the selection and implementation of an ERP system (replacing QuickBooks), partnering with a new in-house business applications engineer - acting as the PM who defines requirements.
Build out inventory and cost accounting processes to determine product COGS ahead of first prototype sales next year.
Transition outsourced accounting in-house and establish the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and account balances.
Prepare the company for its first financial audit and full GAAP compliance.
Hire and manage a junior accountant (already approved) and scale the accounting team as the company grows toward mass production.
- Active CPA required with 7-12 years of progressive accounting experience
- Hands-on inventory and cost accounting experience in a hardware, manufacturing, or physical-goods environment (no pure SaaS backgrounds)
- Experience with ERP implementation or selection - ideally has done it at least once before
- Comfortable being a senior individual contributor who rolls up their sleeves now, with the trajectory to lead a larger team at a late-stage or public company
- High-growth startup experience (Series A-C); built or scaled accounting function from scratch preferred
- Deep U.S. GAAP expertise (ASC 606, 842, 718, 330)
- BS in Accounting or Finance
- Must work on-site 5 days/week in Scotts Valley, CA (SF-based candidates may be considered for 3-4 days/week; open to relocation candidates)
