This is a true Tool and Die Maker role focused on building, maintaining, and refining high-precision stamping dies for national accounts. The position demands advanced craftsmanship, complex problem-solving, and the ability to hold extremely tight tolerances in a non-repetitive environment where every project brings new technical challenges.You will interpret designs, manufacture complex tooling, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with engineering teams to improve performance. This is not a production machining position, it is a hands-on role for an experienced professional who takes pride in work that others cannot replicate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret stamping die designs and components for manufacturability
- Manufacture complex one-off and short-run tooling to exact specifications
- Read and interpret advanced blueprints including GD&T independently
- Perform advanced setups on CNC and manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, ID/OD grinders, and EDM equipment
- Select appropriate tooling, materials, and machining strategies for complex parts
- Conduct detailed in-process and final inspections using precision measurement tools
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex tooling and machining challenges
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tooling performance
- Support shop floor operations with technical expertise and urgency
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace following 5S standards
3+ years of experience in tool and die or high-precision machining
3+ years of hands-on experience in stamping die build or die design
Proven ability to independently complete complex machine setups
Advanced proficiency in G/M code programming
Strong GD&T and blueprint interpretation skills
Solid machinist math skills including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
Deep understanding of tool steels, material properties, and machining strategies
Preferred:
CAD experience, SolidWorks preferred
Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced machinists
Background in continuous improvement of setups, programming, or tool design
