The In-Process Quality Inspector is responsible for performing quality inspections throughout the electronics manufacturing process, with a primary focus on SMT, Wave Soldering, and Selective Soldering operations. This role ensures products and processes meet established quality, workmanship, and customer requirements while identifying and addressing non-conformances before they progress through production.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform in-process inspections of electronic assemblies throughout SMT, Wave Soldering, and Selective Soldering operations.
Inspect products for compliance with IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC-600, and applicable customer specifications.
Follow all ESD and board-handling requirements to protect electronic assemblies and components.
Apply Moisture Sensitive Device (MSD) handling requirements based on component Moisture Sensitivity Levels (MSL).
Verify production processes comply with established work instructions, procedures, and document-control requirements.
Perform visual and dimensional inspections to verify product workmanship and conformance to specifications.
Inspect incoming materials, verify specifications, perform required measurements, and identify/reject non-conforming materials through the designated ERP system.
Approve finished products by verifying specifications and completing required visual and dimensional inspections.
Identify non-conforming product, initiate rework as required, and verify completed rework meets applicable standards.
Document inspection results accurately through inspection reports, logs, and ERP systems.
Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to identify and resolve quality issues in a timely manner.
Stop production processes when necessary to prevent the continued manufacture or shipment of non-conforming assemblies.
Communicate quality concerns to Production Supervisors, Leads, and Engineering personnel.
Support and maintain compliance with applicable ISO and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented quality professional with hands-on electronics manufacturing experience who understands PCB assembly processes and can confidently identify workmanship and process issues. This individual should be comfortable working directly on the production floor, communicating quality concerns, and taking action to prevent non-conforming product from moving through the manufacturing process.
This is a direct-hire, on-site role in Longmont, CO.
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.
- Working knowledge of J-STD-001 requirements.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, work instructions, and other technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects and process deviations.
- Basic computer skills and ability to accurately document inspection results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Ability to monitor production processes, materials, and work areas for quality and compliance issues.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing or quality inspection preferred.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, pin gauges, feeler gauges, height gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Experience with automated inspection and measurement equipment such as SmartScope, CMM, or similar systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus.
- IPC-600, IPC-A-610, and/or J-STD-001 certifications are preferred.
