We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer with 1-5 years of experience to serve as the technical bridge between frontier AI labs and our internal platform team. You will sit in weekly meetings with researchers at leading AI labs, translate their requirements into RL training environments, and ship software that directly drives multi-million dollar projects at a high-growth AI company.
What will you be doing?
Sitting in customer meetings with researchers at frontier AI labs to understand their RL environment requirements and translate them into technical specs.
Building 0 to 1 prototypes and custom environments and tooling for specific customer engagements before they become platform features.
Working in pods with strategic project leads, owning the technical quality, engineering, and productionization of project requirements.
Enforcing quality standards for RL tasks and ensuring training environments meet the bar for frontier model improvement.
Unblocking delivery through integration work, technical debugging, and making design choices for custom projects without breaking the core platform.
- Minimum 1+ years building and shipping production code in a customer-facing or startup environment
- 1-5 years of experience as a customer-facing software engineer or forward deployed engineer
- Experience building evals for AI agents
- Experience with reinforcement learning
- Strong client-facing skills; must be comfortable speaking with customers on a daily basis
- Role is inherently technical, requiring understanding of systems and machine learning infrastructure
- Preferred: high-growth startup background, RL research (including PhDs who want hands-on engineering), or software engineering on AI lab post-training data and RL environments
- Preferred: ex-founders or founding/early engineers (employee 1-20) at a startup
- Self-learners with a background in physics or similar technical fields preferred
- Experience with Python, TypeScript, Docker, and AWS is beneficial but not mandatory
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or STEM
- Work on-site 5x/week in San Francisco
