We are looking for a Controller to build the accounting function from the ground up, working directly with the CFO. This person needs deep, hands-on mortgage accounting experience, such as origination, securitization, MSRs, and hedge accounting, along with the judgment to set policy where none exists yet. They will own day-to-day accounting end to end, then automate it with an AI-native general ledger and modern tooling. This is a builder's seat - the role is designed to grow into broader finance leadership, including hiring and leading a team.
What you will be doing
Owning full-cycle AP/AR, GL accrual accounting, and the monthly close - and making the close shorter every quarter.
Running loan-level accounting from lock to settlement - funding reconciliations, warehouse line activity, gain-on-sale, and investor settlement.
Executing and documenting internal controls for SOC 1 Type II reporting and partnering with the CFO on audit readiness.
Leading the move from QuickBooks to a modern AI-native general ledger and finding manual work to automate across the GL, LOS, warehouse funding, and related systems.
Producing board- and lender-ready reporting, then building out the accounting team as the company scales.
- Deep, hands-on mortgage accounting experience covering origination, securitization, MSRs, and hedge accounting
- 3+ years hands-on mortgage lending accounting experience as a Controller or senior accounting manager ready to step up
- Experience owning full-cycle AP/AR, GL accrual accounting, and monthly close
- Familiarity with QuickBooks and modern AI-native general ledger tooling
- Experience with loan origination systems (LOS) and warehouse funding systems
- Ability to execute and document internal controls for SOC 1 Type II and support audit readiness
- Builder mindset with interest in automating manual accounting work and growing into broader finance leadership
Competitive salary and growth opportunities in a high-growth environment.
